Seminar Description
The 3-day Advanced CPTED Seminar will focus upon advanced CPTED skills and knowledge beneficial to those who have had either basic CPTED training or previous CPTED experience.

Who Should Attend
The Advanced CPTED Certification Seminar will be of significant benefit to law enforcement crime prevention officers, non-sworn crime prevention specialists, and community policing officers with a solid understanding of basic CPTED.

What is Advanced Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Seminar
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is based upon the principle that "the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime, and an improvement in the quality of life".

The CPTED concept employs design strategies, citizen participation and law enforcement involvement to reduce both the fear of crime and the incidence of crime. In communities throughout the United States, law enforcement agencies have become increasingly involved in the implementation of local CPTED codes and ordinances.

Although CPTED should not be the sole responsibility of the police, law enforcement officers involved in crime prevention and community policing programs need a solid foundation of knowledge related to CPTED planning and execution.

Law enforcement agencies should be involved in the preplanning of any community activity where their services will later be required.

Together with architects, local planners, developers and elected officials, law enforcement agencies should endeavor to employ CPTED principles to better protect residential environments and developments, public housing, schools, parks and recreation developments, commercial and manufacturing facilities.

Proper employment of CPTED strategies can reduce crime and improve the quality of life.
