Seminar Description
The Basic CPTED Certification Seminar focuses upon basic CPTED skills and knowledge required by law enforcement officers, architects and community planners.

This seminar will be of significant benefit to crime prevention officers and specialists with limited CPTED training and experience.

Upon successful completion of this seminar, participants will be certified by the American Crime Prevention Institute as CPTED Specialists.

Who Should Attend
The Basic CPTED Certification Seminar will be of significant benefit to law enforcement crime prevention officers, non-sworn crime prevention specialists, and community policing officers with limited CPTED training and experience.

What is Basic Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Seminar
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is based upon the principle that "the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime, and an improvement in the quality of life".

The CPTED concept employs design strategies, citizen participation and law enforcement involvement to reduce both the fear of crime and the incidence of crime.

In communities throughout the United States, law enforcement agencies have become increasingly involved in the implementation of local CPTED codes and ordinances.

Although CPTED should not be the sole responsibility of the police, law enforcement officers involved in crime prevention and community policing programs need a solid foundation of knowledge related to CPTED planning and execution.

Law enforcement agencies should be involved in the preplanning of any community activity where their services will later be required.

Together with architects, local planners, developers and elected officials, law enforcement agencies should endeavor to employ CPTED principles to better protect residential environments and developments, public housing, schools, parks and recreation developments, commercial and manufacturing facilities.

Proper employment of CPTED strategies can reduce crime and improve the quality of life.
